Copper - the red gold
Copper is with a density of 8,9 kg/dm³ a heavy metal although relatively soft and ductile, but even resistant. Due to the extraordinary material properties it is applicable in several areas. The most important properties are the excellent conductance of heat and electricity.
The good resistance to corrosion depends on the enthalpy of reaction. The surface first covers with a dark brown to nearly black protective coart and develop step-by-step into a green patina [composite of basic cuprous salt, depending on the concentration of the elements in the air].
Copper and copper alloys achieve considerable variations of mechanical and physical properties by modification of the alloying components.
